I love spring. It’s the only time of year I have built-in motivation. I love the greenery, the flowers, the hope of a great year.

Some of you may know I’m planning an On The Brink event IRL, which, of course, is colliding with what is turning out to be the busiest month of my life. 100+ people have RSVP’d. I feel flattered but also anxious and kind of sick. Mostly because I have no fucking idea what I’m going to read yet. I’ll pull it together. If you’re in LA and want to come, RSVP here. There will be readings. There will be lovely people. I’d love to see you.

I feel like a lot of people are “going through it” right now, which is interesting because I am thrilled to say I am not for once. Things are going well!?

Except: My mom is in Chicago and will be getting a very detailed scan done to see if she can qualify for surgery for her rare cancer. Prayers are welcome! Cancer is a really bad rollercoaster. It’s weirdly quiet for long stretches. Then a scan happens, you get new information, and suddenly it feels like getting the diagnosis all over again.

This past weekend was my friend Lorraine’s birthday. I drank a shit ton of non-alcoholic wine. Got 3 hrs of sleep. Woke up Saturday morning and drove to Ojai with my friend Lola to “shear a sheep” and learn about wool processing. Kind of a fucking random move but I thought shearing sheep sounded “fun”.

Turns out it’s not. You have to wrestle them to the ground like you're in the WWE. My dumbass thought they’d just be grazing peacefully while we gently shaved them like a Pomeranian. WRONG.

I didn’t actually shear a sheep, but I did learn that wool processing is both a beautiful and weirdly biblical activity. I mean...we washed the wool in the creek with tallow soap ffs. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. We sorted the good parts and the bad parts... picked out the poop and dirt... left it in the sun to dry. It was all primal and great. But after that part... my interest waned. There were many more steps...all by hand...and none of them easy. It gave me a whole new appreciation for wool. It’s wild how disconnected we are from the source and labor of literally everything. I don’t knit. I probably never will. But if I did, I’d just buy the yarn.

My lovely friend Ethan DeLorenzo...who helped organize the event and does a lot of these USAL classes...works with the sheep to graze invasive plants and replant native ones. Very cool.

After I “finished”, my boyfriend picked me up and we went to Rory’s Place, an Ojai hot spot. But I didn’t get the buffalo milk ice cream and I’m PISSED.

Okay onto some dark shit…

  • JARED LETO :(

Sunday morning, Easter, I woke up and started scrolling. Allie Teilz had posted a stream of IG stories with screenshots of girls outing Jared Leto for harassing and assaulting them when they were underage.
